Carnival celebrations take to the streets on Monday
Revellers will bring the carnival spirit to the streets on Monday and motorists are being warned to expect road closures.
The Ministry of Public Works has said in a notice that the Revel De Road Carnival procession is scheduled to take place between noon and 9pm.
The first “lap” of the procession is expected to take place between noon and 3pm, starting on Dutton Avenue and proceeding down Palmetto Road before halting on North Shore Road next to Palmetto Park.
The second “lap”, to run from 3.40pm to 7pm, will bring the party west down North Shore Road to Blackwatch Pass and on to Marsh Folly Road before continuing on to Cedar Avenue and Angle Street.
The procession will then continue down North Street and Dutton Avenue before concluding at Bernard Park.
“Residents in these areas are encouraged to follow the instructions of the police and traffic marshals, who will allow access, as necessary,” the notice said.
“Residents are asked to avoid driving along the parade route while participants are on it. Motorists are advised to use caution and avoid the route area.”
To accommodate the event parking will not be permitted on Dutton Avenue between noon on Sunday and 10pm on Monday.
“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to encourage the full co-operation of the motoring public and apologises for any inconvenience that may result,” the notice concluded.
