‘Don’t Drink and Drive, Arrive Alive’

The island’s drivers were urged to “embrace responsibility” and refrain from alcohol while behind the wheel by the Bermuda Road Safety Council.

The organisation’s message for August, “Don't Drink and Drive, Arrive Alive”, was “more than just a slogan, it's a powerful reminder of the critical responsibility each of us holds when we get behind the wheel”.

The council added: “Alcohol impairs our judgment, co-ordination and reaction times, making driving under its influence extremely dangerous.

“The consequences of drunk driving can be devastating and far-reaching, affecting not just the driver but passengers, pedestrians and families.”

The message comes after ten people were arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol during the Cup Match holiday.

The council urged people to arrange a sober driver, call a taxi or use public transport to get home safely if they planned on drinking alcohol, and to encourage others to do the same.

The council added: “Driving responsibly means understanding that even small amounts of alcohol can impair your driving abilities.

“Legal limits for blood-alcohol concentration are set to minimise risk, but the safest BAC for driving is always zero.

“Don’t take the risk of driving under the influence, even if you think you feel fine.”

BRSC said that driving sober and arriving alive contributes to “safer roads and a safer community”.

It added: “Let's all embrace this responsibility and ensure that every journey ends with everyone arriving alive – together, we can make a significant difference.”
