Traffic wardens will help ease Hamilton traffic
Traffic wardens will be deployed to help with rush hour jams as roadworks enter their final week, the City of Hamilton said.
A city spokeswoman said that the Corporation of Hamilton was aware of frustrations caused by construction on the Spurling Hill traffic lights.
She said: “In response to these challenges, we have deployed traffic wardens, as well as our parking enforcement officers, to better manage traffic during peak hours.
“Starting (Wednesday), they will be providing dedicated support during the morning and evening rush hours to ensure smoother traffic movement throughout the city.”
The move was taken after commuters this morning were gridlocked along Court Street, where buses have been directed to travel instead of down Church Street.
The jam extended to Reid Street and Front Street, and was worsened by the return of students to school.
The spokeswoman emphasised the need for public patience and co-operation.
She added that the project, which was expected to take six to seven weeks, was ahead of schedule and that all major work would finished in the coming week.
The work started on August 10 and was intended to give an overhaul to the traffic lights and sidewalk of the intersection of Spurling Hill and Cavendish Road just outside of Hamilton.
