Road works and a 5k event will affect traffic in Warwick and Pembroke, the Ministry of Public Works has announced.

A spokesman said Middle Road, between Longford Road and Camp Hill, would be reduced to one lane of traffic from Monday.

Part of this road was reduced to a single lane of traffic to accommodate cable pulling since November 23. The upcoming closure will be in effect until February 21.

Work will take place from 7.30am to possibly 6pm every weekday and representatives from Belco and public works will manage traffic with lights, signs, cones and barricades.

Motorists should detour via Lighthouse Hill, South Road, Longford Road, Burnt House Hill, Tamarind Vale and Camp Hill.

The spokesman explained: “We are issuing this reminder to ensure that residents, businesses, and places of worship in the area are fully informed and can prepare for the temporary disruptions.

“While we acknowledge the inconvenience, these works are essential for enhancing the safety and functionality of our road network.

“This project is the first step in our island-wide paving plans for 2025, and we thank everyone in advance for their co-operation and understanding.”

He added that Woodlands Road, from the Serpentine Road to St John’s Road roundabouts, would be closed to traffic during the Butterfield and Vallis 5k race on January 26.

Drivers can detour via Serpentine Road and St John’s Road and only emergency vehicles will be permitted along the closed route during the event, which will take place from 8.30am to 10.30am.

Butterfield and Vallis representatives will manage traffic with barricades and signs.

Questions about the Warwick lane closure can be directed to principal highways engineer Tina Beer-Searle on 501-3044.

Shunae Henry can be contacted on 236-6688 or 536-2244 about the race.
