TCD refines vehicle inspection process
Changes to the vehicle inspection process at the Transport Control Department are expected to shift focus from “cosmetic” requirements.
The amendments are aimed at simplifying procedures to focus exclusively on safety, a government spokeswoman said.
The update will make it easier for vehicle owners to meet inspection requirements while maintaining safety standards on the island’s roads.
Cosmetic issues that do not result in safety concerns will not result in a failed examination, the spokeswoman said.
Wayne Furbert, the Minister of Transport, explained that over the years, the inspection process included safety checks with emphasis on cosmetic aspects such as on spotless exteriors, dent-free panels and polished paintwork.
He said: “Vehicle owners often have to invest significant time and money preparing their vehicles for inspection, which can be stressful and expensive.
“While we have made significant progress over the years, we recognise that there is still room to further streamline our services and reduce unnecessary red tape.”
He said that by shifting the focus solely to safety requirements, the inspection process will become more straightforward for vehicle owners.
Mr Furbert said that the changes will reduce financial burdens on vehicle owners, particularly in today’s economic climate.
He added: “The changes reflect the ministry’s commitment to modernising services and enhancing the overall customer experience.”
