On the move: the new service will run for a three-week trial period (File photograph)

The Department of Public Transportation has extended bus services in the East End for a three-week trial period.

From Monday, a new route will include Gates Fort, travelling on Cut Road at the easternmost tip of St George.

The Route 6 bus, which departs from St David’s at 1.40pm, will extend its journey along Cut Road to Gates Fort before arriving at the St George depot at about 2.20pm.

Passengers boarding the bus between Gates Fort and the St George depot will have to disembark and transfer to either the route 11 Hamilton bus at 2.30pm or 2.45pm, or the Route 10 Hamilton bus at 3.15pm to continue their journey.

Wayne Furbert, the Minister of Transport, said: “This three-week trial, initiated in response to valuable feedback from the community, aims to assess the demand and viability of this new route.

“The trial period will be closely monitored, and based on ridership and overall viability, the new route may be added permanently to the regular schedule.”
