A building demolition and a road race will affect traffic in Pembroke and Paget on Sunday, the Ministry of Public Works said.

A ministry spokesman said Pitts Bay Road, from Woodbourne Avenue to Waterloo Lane, will be closed to all traffic between 7.30am and 4pm so a building can be demolished.

Representatives from Island Construction will divert westbound traffic along Woodbourne Avenue and eastbound traffic via Rosemont Avenue during the closure.

The spokesman added that the David Saul Memorial Fidelity 1.8K and 5K event will affect traffic in Pembroke and Paget.

Participants in the 1.8K run/walk will go from the Fidelity entrance on Crow Lane to Pomander Road, left on Harbour Road and head back to Fidelity along The Lane.

The 5K run/walk will also start and finish at the Fidelity entrance, with participants continuing to Newstead Belmont Hills before turning around.

Police and race marshals will monitor the route during the events, which will take place between 8am and 10.30am, and the roads will remain open.

However, police can close off streets and authorise parking along the route as the Commissioner of Police decides.

Allan DeSilva, vice-president of Island Construction, can be contacted at 236-3011 for more information about the Pitts Bay Road closure.

Questions about the memorial event can be directed to race representatives Nicola Hallett on 536-6618 or Bonnie Mills at 339-1627.
