Technical and engineering knowhow that brought major roadworks in Sandys to completion got applause from Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment.

The 230ft retaining wall needed to shore up Somerset Road was finished after more than five months of work.

Mr Adams called it “an excellent example of the ministry's technical expertise”.

He added: “I commend principal highways engineer Tina Beer-Searle, principal structural engineer Austin Kenny and structural engineer Jean-Marc Colmet, who played pivotal roles in delivering this project successfully.

"Their dedication, alongside the wider team, makes infrastructure progress like this possible.“

He thanked the previous minister, Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, for “laying the groundwork for this essential project”.

Mr Adams also thanked area residents for their patience and highlighted the “remarkable show of community spirit” from those who allowed their properties to be used for alternative routes.
