A lane has been closed near the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo so a new traffic signal can be installed.

The temporary closure on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish will be in effect until April 10.

The Ministry of Public Works and Environment said: “This traffic measure is necessary to facilitate trenching works to install a new traffic signal at the nearby pedestrian crosswalk.”

The ministry said that a single lane would be closed from 9am to 3pm each day and traffic controls would be used to minimise disruption.

It was announced in February that pedestrian crossings across the island were in line for upgrades after a shipment of beacons arrived.

The amber lights were scheduled for installation at several locations. Replacement of the existing pedestrian signal at the aquarium was among the first.

The Government said: “This site will receive an upgraded system featuring a continuous green light with an activation red light for pedestrian crossings, alongside three advanced yellow flashing beacons — similar to those in place at the Railway Trail crossing near Harmony Club in Paget.”
