New US Consul-General tours airport facilities
Longstanding agreements between the Bermuda Airport Authority and United States agencies were discussed during a tour by the newly appointed US Consul-General of facilities at LF Wade International Airport last Thursday
Antoinette Hurtado also discussed protocols to ensure safe and efficient travel for US-bound passengers during discussions with airport officials.
She reviewed air traffic control and air traffic engineering facilities as well as the Bermuda Weather Service operations within the airport authority.
Ms Hurtado said: “Meeting with the Bermuda Airport Authority and observing its facilities and operations reinforced our close co-operation with Bermuda on security, aviation and technology issues.
“I look forward to continuing and strengthening that co-operation.”
Lester Nelson, chief executive of the BAA, said: “The airport authority was happy to welcome US Consul-General Hurtado.
“We have enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the US Consulate and US agencies.”
Part of the BAA’s role as an air navigation services provider is to operate and maintain several Bermuda-based US assets on behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration.
The authority also hosts radar equipment for the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration at its Cooper’s Island site, and administers the US Customs and Border Protection agreement, which provides pre-clearance at the airport.
