Two power cuts scheduled for Belco repairs

Vital work: Belco crews have now restored power to all customers (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Belco will carry out two controlled power cuts in St. George’s today before the island is hit by strong winds later in the week.

A spokesman for the power firm said that the outages were needed to “address issues” on an overhead distribution line.

The first outage will take place on Barry Road between 9am and noon and the second will be on Wellington Back Road between 1pm and 5pm.

The spokesman said that power had now been restored to all customers who suffered blackouts as a result of Thursday’s winter storm.

But forecasters predicted that more rough weather is on the way.

The Bermuda Weather Service said the island may experience “gusty gales along with possible thunderstorms” from tomorrow, as a complex front passes over the area.

Dennis Pimentel, the president of Belco, said: “We’re preparing for the next round of weather on Tuesday and remain prepared and committed to providing the best service possible to our valued customers.”

He added: “I would like to sincerely thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we recovered from the recent winter storm.

“Thanks also to our staff and road crews who worked as quickly and safely as possible to restore power in often challenging conditions.”
