Island residents were encouraged this morning to be careful ahead of the arrival of Post Tropical Cyclone Jerry today.

Wayne Caines, the Minister of National Security, said that the storm’s closest point of approach was now expected to be 11pm tonight.

Mr Caines added: “The onset of tropical storm force winds will be felt at about 4pm.

“I encourage everyone to move about the island with caution during the increased winds which are expected this afternoon and end about 2am.”

He reiterated that today would be “business as usual” in Bermuda.

Mr Caines said that two primary schools — Francis Patton, in Hamilton, and Gilbert Institute, in Paget — that had been forced to close yesterday after they lost power were open today as normal. He added that the Bermuda Police Service had received no calls overnight as related to high winds from Jerry.

Mr Caines said that emergency teams that had been on standby last night for storm-related issues had been sent home “based on the forecast form the Bermuda Weather Service”.
