Heavy rainfall hits Bermuda

Stormy weather is hitting the island again today.

The Bermuda Weather Service said this morning that bouts of showers, perhaps heavy at times, along with strong to gale force wind can be expected.

Winds of between 15 and 25 knots are expected from the south this morning and are then expected to strengthen to 20 to 30 knots from the south-southeast and veering southwesterly this afternoon.

Tonight, winds are expected from the southwest with a strength of 20 to 30 knots and gusts to 40 knots increasing to 25 to 35 knots with gusts to 45 knots by late evening. Scattered to widespread showers with poor visibility are expected.

Similar conditions are expected tomorrow.

A government spokesman said: “The Ministry of National Security is encouraging the community to exercise safety and caution as the weather conditions worsen.”

Renee Ming, the Minister of National Security, said public services were not expected to be disrupted.

But the spokeswoman added: “The public is advised to make responsible decisions. This includes using extreme care when moving about the island tomorrow.

She said that Ms Ming had reminded the public to make sure their storm emergency kits were well-stocked and up to date.
