Stormy weather warning issued for tonight
A severe weather warning was today issued by forecasters.
The Bermuda Weather Service said a thunderstorm advisory was also in force and that gusts of up to 60mph between 3am and 6am could be expected.
The weather service said: “The active weather pattern continues this winter.
“As a frontal system approaches from the west tonight, it is expected to intensify overnight near Bermuda, producing periods of rain, with heavier embedded showers and thunderstorms late tonight, with the likelihood of thunder increasing after midnight.
“Some of the thunderstorms may produce gusts up to 60 knots over the marine area or even over the island itself in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday.”
The weather service statement added: “BWS staff will be monitoring the situation through the night.
“If severe thunderstorm signatures are detected, the watch will be upgraded to a warning.”
A gale force wind warning has also been posted for tonight and a small craft warning has been issued and will remain in place throughout Thursday.
