Drought relief for East End

Drenched: St George was yesterday hit with a much-needed downpour of rain (Photograph by Blaire Simmons)

A welcome cloudburst hit the East End yesterday, breaking the summer’s prolonged dry spell for St George’s residents.

The downpour came during a parched summer, with the Bermuda Weather Service highlighting July as the island’s driest since 1984 – with less than an inch of rain.

The island has sweltered under the grip of the Bermuda-Azores High, which has encouraged sunny and dry conditions.

But the BWS extended forecast shows a break in the high pressure over Bermuda, delivering “more unsettled conditions” over the next few days, with the chance for some more showers.
