Ferry schedule hit by high winds

Rough seas: the island is in for yet another wet weekend (File photograph)

Expected heavy rains and high winds have hit tomorrow’s ferry schedule.

Blue Route services between Hamilton and Dockyard have been cancelled, although Pink Route services between Hamilton, Paget and Warwick will be operating as normal.

According to the Bermuda Weather Service, conditions will deteriorate tonight, with low pressure bringing gales and widespread, sometimes prolonged, heavy rain and possible thunderstorms.

It is not just the elements that are hampering seafarers. Today, a spokeswoman for the Department of Marine and Ports Services confirmed that Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is currently out of action.

The spokeswoman said: “Gibbs Hill Lighthouse has experienced mechanical issues with the motor that turns the light.

“Repairs are underway. The light will be out of commission until repairs are complete.”
