Several services in Hamilton will close early tomorrow because of the impending Hurricane Ernesto.

A spokeswoman said the city’s public restrooms will close at 11am and its offices at City Hall and Laffan Street, as well as the Bermuda National Gallery and the Bermuda Society of Arts, will shut their doors at midday.

The offices will reopen at 9.30am on Monday or when it is considered safe to do so.

All car park barrier systems will go offline first thing in the morning and city parks will close at 1pm, remaining closed until it is safe to reopen.

City trash should be out by 9.30am and all bins must be secured after the final collection at 11am, but oil will not be collected until after Ernesto passes Bermuda.

The spokeswoman added: “Anything that can become a potential projectile must be stored safely, including wheelie bins.

“The public is reminded that bringing household trash from outer parishes and dumping it in the city is illegal; anyone caught illegally dumping trash will be prosecuted.”

Motorists are encouraged to use caution when approaching traffic junctions in the city after the storm, which was expected to graze 36 miles west of Bermuda at midday on Saturday.
