Fit Finish: embracing movement in the final days of 2023
The year is ending with loads of rain, however there is still plenty of holiday cheer hanging in the air. But amid all the celebrations, there is chatter of “new year's resolutions”. Fitness goals, often born with the opening of the January calendar, can feel challenging during our festivities.
However, what if we changed our approach? What if, instead of resolutions, we embraced the final days of 2023 as a movement of celebration or a bridge between indulgence and intention?
Let's tap into moving away from the pressure of resolutions, and make it a moment of discovery.
Here are some ways to make the most of these moments:
Embrace the outdoors:
Yoga on the beach: Greet the day with a fresh air and sun salutations on our beautiful pink sand.
Take a walk through the coves: Put your sneakers on and explore Bermuda's beaches and trails. Pack a picnic, design a treasure hunt or find a secret beach and enjoy all that it has to offer.
Move more
Dance: The great thing about dance is that it is also exercise. If you have ever danced all night at a wedding, there is something about dance that just makes you feel amazing.
It’s pretty impossible to dance and stay in a bad mood. That’s because dance is exercise and exercise releases those endorphins.
Salsa Nights: Salsa your way into the new year! Bermuda has an awesome Salsa community and often host salsa nights that offer a fun and social way to move your body and learn a new skill.
Fuel your movement
Fresh foods: nourish your body with all of the local produce. Visit farmers markets and offerings – Bermuda carrots, sweet potatoes, and local fish.
Hydration: stay hydrated with infused water. Add slices of cucumber, lime, or berries for a refreshing and flavourful way to enjoy your water.
Balance: enjoy your favourite festive treats, but enjoy them slowly and mindfully. Select quality ingredients and homemade options whenever possible.
As we bid farewell to 2023, let's move with a carefree spirit. These final days are not about setting rigid resolutions, but about celebrating the joy of movement and connecting with our bodies.
So, take time to embrace all of our island's vibrant beauty, let loose, and move to the rhythm of your own beat.
Remember, fitness is not a destination, it's a journey. Let's make this upcoming journey a pleasant one.
Happy holidays, happy movement and B-Active for Life!
