Exercise: it’s more than just weight loss
Most people, when beginning an exercise programme are constantly focused on weight-loss. But is that all there is to it? Should weight-loss be our only goal? Exercise is a powerful tool that goes way beyond just fat loss.
We move our bodies for a number of reasons, each contributing to a healthier, happier you.
Let's look into the amazing benefits of exercise that have nothing to do with weight loss and help us all to forget the number on the scale!
Building a strength machine: Exercise is all about getting stronger. Lifting weights, body weight exercises, and resistance training build muscle mass, which isn't just about aesthetics.
Strong muscles support your entire body, improve balance, and help you perform everyday activities with ease.
Muscles matter: Maintaining and increasing muscle mass is key for long-term health. Muscle burns more calories at rest, boosting your metabolism and aiding in weight management (along with proper nutrition, of course!).
Joint happiness: Exercise keeps your joints lubricated and mobile, reducing stiffness and pain. Regular movement strengthens the muscles surrounding your joints, providing better support and stability.
Heart of the matter: Regular physical activity is a major boost for your heart health. Exercise strengthens your heart muscle, improves blood flow, and lowers blood pressure, which is crucial for a healthy cardiovascular system.
Mind and body connection: Exercise isn't just physical; it's a powerful mood booster! Physical activity has been known to reduce depression, as it releases endorphins, those feel-good chemicals that combat stress and anxiety. Working out can also improve sleep quality, focus, and overall mental wellbeing.
Power-up your fitness journey: Now, let's talk about the other half of the equation: nutrition. Nutrition is the driver of weight loss. I personally would like to think what others think, “I can eat what I want as long as I exercise.” However it doesn’t work that way for most people.
While exercise plays a vital role, a healthy diet is extremely important for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.
Without proper nutrition in check, your body won't have the fuel it needs to function optimally, which will hinder your weight loss efforts.
Exercise and a balanced diet are a winning combination for overall health and wellbeing. Focus on moving your body and feeling the rewards.
Nourish yourself with delicious, healthy foods. You'll be amazed at how good you feel, both physically and mentally!
Keep your joints, mind and body happy and B-Active For Life!
