Commitment over mood: stay true to your fitness journey

Choose yourself: Dre Hinds writes stay committed to your journey, regardless of your mood

Last time we discussed fitness through every phase of life. I want to take this opportunity to continue this trend. At 4½ months pregnant, I’m finally back to working out without nausea, without complete exhaustion, and without questioning whether I’d survive another day of food aversions.

At this moment ― feeling strong, feeling capable ― I’m reminded of the power of discipline and commitment.

Now, let me be clear: I’m not saying I’m some kind of beast for working out while pregnant. I’m not here to collect medals for burpees with a belly (though, honestly, that should be a thing).

But, what I am saying is that movement isn’t just something I do ― it’s a part of me. This isn’t a phase or a trend or a quick fix.

It’s a lifestyle, one that I’ve built over years of showing up, even when it wasn’t easy.

When I found out I was expecting again, I made myself a promise: I will work out as much as possible for as long as possible during this pregnancy.

Why? Because I remember my last time carrying life ― how pain and complications put me on bed rest, how movement was taken away from me before I was ready. And now, with a body that (for now) is pain-free and mobile, I refuse to take that for granted.

But let’s be real ― pregnancy is already exhausting. Add in family commitments, work, and the general chaos of life, and maintaining a fitness routine can feel like an impossible task.

Some days, I don’t feel like working out. Some days, I’d rather stay curled up in bed with a snack and call it a win. And that’s where commitment comes in.

Commitment is more important than motivation

There’s a quote that keeps me grounded, especially during the hardest days:

"Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you’d do, long after the mood you said it in has left."

Motivation is fleeting. It’s unreliable. It’s there when things feel fresh and exciting, but it disappears when life gets busy, when fatigue sets in, when the excuses start sounding a little too reasonable.

Commitment, on the other hand, is a decision. It’s a promise to yourself that doesn’t waver with your mood. It’s showing up ― not because you feel like it, but because you said you would.

And that’s exactly why I’m sharing this.

This is your reminder to stay committed to your journey, regardless of your mood. To stop chasing motivation and start chasing consistency. To remain honest in your efforts, even when no one is watching.

Because when you decide to prioritise your health, when you commit to showing up, when you succeed in following through ― that’s where real progress happens.

So whatever season you’re in ― whether it’s pregnancy, parenthood, a busy career, or simply a rough patch in life ― don’t let your emotions dictate your actions.

Choose commitment. Choose yourself. Choose to keep going. And trust me ― your future self will thank you for it.

Happy Wednesday again fitfam! As usual, remain unapologetic about your entire fitness and wellness journey, stay true to yourself and always be honest with your efforts.

Happy Wednesday, fitfam!
