'Amazing' career fair
On Tuesday, December 14, 2010, the Dellwood Middle Schools M2 students and teachers participated in a mini career fair put on by the Professional and Technical Trainees of the Government of Bermuda.Students were running around and competing against each other while learning about various jobs within the Bermuda Government. The mini career fair was based on the show ‘The Amazing Race’.Students had to read clues then go to a station where they were met by a Government worker.Students had to complete a task to earn points. The winning team received a prize while all students who participated were presented with gift bags.Ashontae Goater, who had a great time said, “It was different because we’ve never had a career fair like this.“At some career fairs there’s not a race or competition. We had to figure out clues and get them right. This is best career fair I’ve been to.”There were representatives from the Accountant General’s office, the Bermuda Fire Service, Customs, the Department of Parks plus many more departments. Many students thought the career fair was fun and exciting.“I think it was fun. It was like a scavenger hunt. I learned what Customs have to go through such as searching bags and everything,” said Asia Denkins, an M2 student.Students actually experienced what it was like to do other people’s jobs. Stephanie Ventura an M2 participant said, “My favourite part of the day was the Bermuda Fire Service. We were allowed to put out a small fire.”Most students had a great time while learning about jobs available here in Bermuda.
