Clearwater pupils immerse themselves in good deeds

During the past school year the youngsters have explored a range of issues and subjects ranging from tracing their family roots to examining different aspects of the daily newspaper.

Students in M1 teacher Terrylyn Weeks' class recently completed a project on the Newspapers in Education programme.

They examined different aspects of the newspaper in their Social Studies class to find out how newspapers are constructed and produced. The project was also set up to assist with the Islandwide drive to increase literacy.

But the projects have not been purely academic.

Clearwater students have also held fund raising events. This has included a walkathon to raise money for special projects in the school, such as literature and library books and audio visual equipment. And there efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Principal Charlotte Ming and deputy principal Derek Tully often seek to promote the students' efforts and reward their achievements.

Read all about it: M1 students, from left, Latroya Darrell, Keejay Hill, and Ajuan Lambe, hold up copies of The Royal Gazette after examining various aspects of the newspaper during a project on Newspapers in Education.

Kestrels: M3 students Casey Daniels, Sherkeia Outerbridge, Tania Esdaille, Geno Hollis, teach Mrs. Sarah Wheddon, Shawn Almeida, Ricky Foggo, and Tana Darrell did a project on the birds.

Good spot: Clearwater M3 student Dennika Warren received a special prize during the schools assembly earlier this week for being so observant. Dennika spotted a Y2K glitch on Cablevision Channel 9 shortly after midnight on January 1. She noticed that the caption read January 1, 1900 instead of January 1, 2000. She is pictured receiving her prize, a sports watch, from the school's deputy principal Derek Tully. Dennika is one of many Clearwater students who have been recognised for their effort during the past school year.
