Fiona, Trevor, Tiffany: A trio making dreams come true

Three Saltus Graduate Year students will pursue their educational dreams after being admitted to prestigious US institutions.

Fiona Herring, Trevor Leitch, and Tiffany Heslop have received letters of acceptance from Dartmouth University, Princeton and the University of Virginia, respectively.

The three were recognised by the schools through early acceptance procedures.

Fiona, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kip Herring, of Southampton, has been at Saltus since 1992 and is now Head Girl. She took top honours in last year's British General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) by passing 11 subjects, earning `A' grades in ten. This placed Fiona in the top five percent of the international 1997 GCSE examination candidates. She plans to study liberal arts at Dartmouth University, one of New England's most distinguished institutions.

Trevor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Leitch, of Somerset, has been accepted to Princeton after also ranking in the top five percent of international 1997 GCSE candidates. He passed 11 subjects, ten of which were grade `A'. Trevor has been at Saltus for six years and is a Senior Prefect. He plans to attend Princeton to study maths.

Trevor is a top debater and will represent Bermuda with fellow Saltus student Ian Ostroff Striffler in an international youth debate in Israel this spring.

And Tiffany, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paddy Heslop, of Southampton, joined the Saltus Graduate Year after completing studies at the Bermuda High School for Girls in 1997. She plans to major in history and study accounting at the University of Virginia which was founded by past US president Thomas Jefferson in 1819.

The Saltus Graduate Year programme prepares young Bermudians for entry to colleges and universities in the US, UK, and Canada. The current class has 63 students from Saltus, BHS, Berkeley Institute, Whitney Institute and Warwick Academy who attend courses based on British GCSE and American Advanced Placement (AP) models to prepare them for their baccalaureate studies.
