In the summer months Young Observer is profiling top students from throughout the Island in recognition of their exemplary performance during the school
One thing you learn about when speaking to Kenten Trott is that this is a young man who knows exactly what he wants and he knows what he needs to get it.
The future investment officer/accountant is looking forward to the new school year when he will be attending the Berkeley Institute.
He says the key for many is that they must apply themselves. This includes developing good study habits.
After school, Kenten says he immediately goes to work as soon as he arrives home. He explains that if he has homework that becomes his first priority.
This is a two-step programme for him -- the first is to complete any needed work, then before he goes to sleep he studies.
"There's no giving up,'' says the Clearwater Middle School student.
He explains that if he has projects to do or homework, he gets it done as soon as he can.
He admits: "I like all subjects, but math, science and business studies are my favourites.'' However, he admits: "School is challenging at times.'' What Kenten has learned from his own experience is that too many students just do not try.
"You have to be encouraged to go on and never give up,'' he says.
Success can come easily for students as long as they remember three simple things, he adds: "Apply yourself, respect teachers and just do it.'' His inspiration and role model is his pastor Neville Smith of the Radnor Road Christian Fellowship church.
Also he considers his family to be inspirations, saying: "Everyone is important to me.'' Bracing for the change is not always easy, but Kenten is looking back on his time at Clearwater fondly.
"I'm happy to go. I am happy to move on,'' he says. "But part of me is still at Clearwater.''
