NADINE BLAKE

becoming a research scientist. Specifically she wants to be an epidemiologist, which means she would specialise in the area of studying epidemics.

Nadine, 15, is a fourth year student at St. George's Secondary. Her favourite class is science and she keeps active by playing basketball.

She is on the student council and is a peer mediator.

Nadine has received many awards for sports participation and has also received a certificate from the Human Rights Commission for an essay that she wrote.

In her free time Nadine enjoys reading and listening to Janet Jackson. Her favourite food is chicken and she loves to watch Hercules.

She has two younger brothers Devart and Craig. She also has a dog.

Nadine describes herself as being a little shy, respectful and ambiguous.

"Anything I want I try to go out and get it.''she said.

She said the worst time of her life was when she got teased in primary school because of her long skirt.

"On the other hand the best day of my life was when I won the 100-metre race on sports day, I was so happy that I cried'' she said.

Nadine believes that society's main problem is violence. She said that the solution was communication.

"People need to get together and get to know each other better. They need to communicate. There needs to be a programme like peer mediation put in place for the community,'' she added.

She said that if the violence escalated Bermuda would become like New York City, filled with drugs, prostitution, and gang fights.

" People will be afraid to go in the streets, and they will not be safe in their own homes,'' she added.

She says that if the violence was controlled Bermuda would become a friendlier place where people could smile at each other on the street.

Nadine thinks that Government needs to build a computer complex for Bermuda's youth.

"Technology is advancing and Bermuda's youth need to know how to use computers. They are not well-equipped in this area right now,'' she said.

Nadine said that if she was given a plane ticket to anywhere in the world she would go to Italy.

"I would really like to see Rome because there are many interesting ruins there,'' she said.
