Sailing camp proves to be a breeze!
the best of their two-month holiday.
And camp director Jamie Harvey has the perfect plan for a wet and wild summer-windjamming.
The novice sailing students embark on a two-week journey to learn water sports such as sailing, jet skiing, banana boating (similar to kayaking), and tubing.
"Our programme is a little bit different from most sailing camps,'' Mr.
Harvey says of the nine-year-old summer camp. "We don't just sail, we do kayaking, water skiing, and banana boating.'' Students are not only taught to have fun, they are taught the importance of water safety.
Students automatically put on their life jackets when going on any type of equipment, Mr. Harvey, who wears his life jacket all the time, points out.
This young lover of sailing arrives in his life jacket and leaves with it on when camp is over.
The students are also taught to be more responsible. They are taught how to care for water vehicles and how to help each other.
Jason Doers, who is a junior counsellor, says he enjoys this summer camp because every one is like family, they all stick together.
"Just being around so much children with so much smiling face makes this job a worthwhile one,'' said Davon Burgess who is also a junior counsellor.
Mr. Harvey says he feels that every one is so close knit in this summer camp because of the small number of the group.
He says with less numbers it is easier to get to know everybody personally. He also says larger groups are harder to teach.
Windjammer summer camp takes children from the ages of eight to 13 at a cost of $300 for the two-week session.
