Diversity is a big part of our world, and the Bermuda High School for Girls has a special day to celebrate it. Diversity Day is a big celebration, which Tina Nash (the current guidance counsellor) organises. Each form room class is assigned a specific country, and the students are expected to make their classroom look and feel like visitors are actually in that specific country.

This year Diversity Day had a theme. The theme was Global Poverty. Instead of just focusing on making their classroom look like their country, the girls were to show how poverty affects countries around the world.

The girls were told in January which country they would be focusing on to prepare for Diversity Day, which took place in March. They had three whole months to prepare. The students stayed after school on some days if they were available and worked with great enthusiasm. Other schools on the Island were invited to come to BHS and have fun in experiencing Diversity Day. A student attending Bermuda High School for Girls said: "It is a very interesting experience. You really get to see just how fortunate we really are. I have learned a lot about global poverty and what we can do to help out."

On Diversity Day, each person was given a passport with his or her picture in it to mimic what it is like to travel. When each student visited a country he or she received a sticker of that country's flag that was placed inside his or her passport to indicate that he or she had been to that country. Everyone really enjoyed Diversity Day, and seeing what each country was like. Diversity Day has touched many students and they are now eager to help end global poverty.
