On the evening of Friday April 23 at the National Stadium several schools joined together to compete in the Pacers Relay Classic Track Meet.

The Pacers Track Club hosts this annual event to recognise the talents of Bermuda's young racers. T. N. Tatem Middle School competed against Whitney, Sandys, Clearwater, and Dellwood Middle Schools in several races. Several students recalled feeling nervous and excited as they watched the primary students race and waited for their own to begin. In the girls' x 400 metre race Tyra Stovell (M3), Kianna Smith (M2), Jahtia Smith (M1), and Farah Ming (M3) placed first. In the boys' 4 x 400 metre race, Ahijah Foggo (M3), Jahmari Sutton (M2), Jahkai Dyer (M3), and Keanu Whitter (M2) placed first. Jolenda Raynor (M3), Farah Ming (M3), Keonae Smith (M1), and Tyra Stovell (M3) also placed first in the girls' 4X100 race.

When all of the points were tallied, it was an unbelievable tie between Sandys and T. N. Tatem Middle Schools. Therefore, they had to consider the total of the actual times to determine the winner. Mrs. Naquita Robinson, physical education teacher at Tatem, says that she was so sure that Sandys would win the overall championship that she had begun to walk toward the exit.

Then, the announcement came that the winner, by four one-hundredths (that's 0.04) seconds, was T. N. Tatem Middle School!

This was a big honour for T. N. Tatem because they have been working hard to improve their standings in sports on the Island. For example, at the annual Interschool Sports event at National Stadium, Tatem placed 3rd this year and last (2009). This is the highest T. N. Tatem (Spice Valley and Warwick Secondary) has placed in that event in fifteen years!
