A truly unforgettable day
On Saturday May 2 the annual Catlin End-to-End took place. The Bermuda End-To-End was started by three friends who decided to walk from one end of the Island to the other. Over the years it gradually altered to a local charity walk, which over the years has raised more than $3.34 million for Bermuda charities.
This year I decided to walk with a few of my friends and participate in the Middle-to-End walk, as we all knew that attempting to walk from St. George's would have meant that we would be purged from the race, as we probably would have made it only as far as Botanical Gardens. We all started at 10 a.m. along with hundreds of other walkers. It was fun walking as a group as we had each other's company. We talked about school, summer and the future, which included us being in Dockyard by 2.30 p.m.
As we walked through the trails and along the road, we discovered Bermuda's beauty in its entirety. We also saw some plants that we hadn't seen before and we all engaged in naming local landmarks as we strolled through the parishes. Occasionally we stopped at water stops to revitalise our energy level. This, along with the many members of the public who cheered us on, encouraged us tremendously.
At around 2.30 p.m. came into the gates of Dockyard and were greeted by a mass of onlookers who were there to welcome us in or who had just finished the event themselves. We all gave each other a high five as the atmosphere was full of mirth and jocund people.
We then found a comfortable spot underneath a palm tree and kicked off our shoes as our feet were aching.
Saturday was an unforgettable day filled with camaraderie and entertainment!
