Bermuda High School girls experience 'La France'
On March 14, 30 students from Bermuda High School got on a plane heading to JFK Airport in New York.
After a five-hour wait in JFK, they got on a plane heading to Paris, France.
On their arrival they only had an hour or so to get changed and relax before being whisked away to the Arc de Triomphe. After taking a few snapshots, the girls were allowed to break off into groups of no less than three to go shopping on Les Champs Elysées, the widest and most prestigious avenue in Paris.
After re-grouping, they walked to the museum of Rodin, where although exhausted, enjoyed the beautiful scenery and art. Even though all of the girls indicated that they felt like falling asleep at that moment, they found the energy to go first by Metro and then by foot to the Eiffel Tower.
This world-renowned monument was designed by Gustave Eiffel and constructed during 1887-1889. The girls took the elevator, which was crowded with people, all the way up to the highest floor tourists are able to visit.
The top of the Tower is a radio broadcasting station. After enjoying the spectacular view, the students took the elevator back down to the first floor, where, after waiting a bit because of a line, they had great French cuisine for dinner.
Once back down on the ground, the girls were ready to hit the sack but, because of some unforeseen events and the inconvenient night elevator schedule, the girls were delayed around an hour.
Finally, they walked through the rain to the Metro, got off at the right stop and went straight to bed with smiles on their faces. The next day, they had to wake up bright and early, as they were going to where they would be spending the next week full of cultural experiences and French classes and a town called Saint-Malo.
"It was a really fun trip! I'm glad I did it!" said one of the girls who went on the trip. Every year the languages department organises a school trip. Each year the trip is focused either on French or Spanish. The language trip for 2009 is going to be to Costa Rica where students will have an opportunity to improve their Spanish as well as their scientific understanding.
