Coin collecting in water containers raises $15,803 for Feed My Lambs in Haiti
In a period of two weeks, Paget Primary collected a total of 166,427 coins and a total of $15,803.83 to give to the Feed My Lambs Ministry working in Haiti.
A cheque was presented to Mr. Phillip Rego, founder of the charity, by Paget Primary School's Head Boy, Asante Darrell, and Deputy Head Girl, Chioma Lawrence on February 5 this year.
On January 18, Paget Primary School students and staff set out on a mission. We decided to embark on a coin drive as a fund raiser for the Feed My Lambs Ministry, Haiti survivors.
Being moved to help the Haiti survivors, the Paget Primary School family put their hands to a very profitable venture. The students and staff started by collecting coins in small, brown paper bags that had the school's crest neatly glued to them. Each member of Paget Primary School collected coins, brought them into school the following day, and deposited them into a huge Pure Water container that was located in every classroom. These containers were collected on a daily basis by the Primary Six prefects and very carefully taken to the mastermind of this fundraiser event Mrs. Marty Davis. Mrs. Davis was assisted by other members of the Fund Raising Committee in the daunting task of bagging and carrying the coins to various cars for transportation to the bank for counting.
These coins were taken to the HSBC Express Banking Center for counting. Did we give them to a teller to count? No, we wouldn't do that! Instead we cautiously placed them into the coin machine. It was fun and exciting! The more we deposited the more the total increased.
Mr. Damon Edwards, the Health and Physical Education teacher at Paget Primary School, started a "Running for Lives" initiative whereby the students collected money as an incentive for our annual cross country event held at the school grounds. Each participant was given a pledge sheet and responsible for collecting pledges. The students worked diligently, collecting $3513.71
The Paget Primary family felt elated that they could help the survivors of Haiti in their time of need. This was a rewarding and unforgettable experience.
