'Team Gary' adds to the buzz of Alicia's busy year
Alicia Astwood, a special needs student at T. N. Tatem Middle school has had a busy year.
She has been accepted as a PHC majorette team member, takes drumming and horseback riding lessons, and she completed the Middle-to-End walk on May 1 with the support of lots of friends and family, including one of her teachers, Mrs. Leslie Evans.
This was a very special accomplishment for Alicia since she did not walk until she was four years old.
The team was named "Team Gary," after the horse that Alicia rides. This year Alicia was excited to be joining the crowds. Mrs. Astwood, her mother, said: "We are so grateful to have more people accepting Alicia and understanding our challenges."
Alicia was inspired by her love of horse riding to donate the money she collected to WindReach. In fact, it was horseback riding that helped her learn to walk and sit up on her own. Team Gary collected over $700.00 for charity.
