Who knew summers in the park could be so much fun?
Summer Sundays in the park, to be held on the first Sunday of every month at Victoria Park, is a joyful event. The theme for this month's Summer Sundays was 'Soulful Expressions', focused mostly on Soul, Classics, and R&B. The May 2 Summer Sundays started off spectacularly as the first of their events for the whole year.
Thomas Lightbourne had his first experience at the Summer Sundays event. He was working as the events and marketing coordinator for the City of Hamilton.
He was sitting in the History booth, where he provided people with the information about the City of Hamilton. He stated that, "A fairly good amount of people were interested in learning a little history when the event had only just started."
The crowd was on its feet when the events started, thanks to a very lively MC with a great sense of humour, Patrina Paynter, and according to a young boy "impressive dancing as well".
The early sets focused on our talented youth. The Warwick Academy Jazz band opened their performance with 'In The Mood' and had the crowd clapping their hands and stomping their feet.
They got the crowd all jazzed up with tunes by Bob Marley. Even the little children were having a blast, jumping around and dancing to the music.
The band was truly remarkable!
Also featured in the line-up were vocalists Sarafina Durrant, Kaelyn Castle and Jason Richardon and the Feel of Music Youth Band.
"This was my first Summer Sundays, and I loved it. I never knew I could have this much fun at a park while listening to jazz music," stated Jade Bean.
"Summer Sundays is a great event, because not only is it giving people something to do on a Sunday, it's also broadening children's musical horizons showing them that there are other types of good music than what most people are listening to," stated a viewer.
People were on their feet from the time the event started to when it ended.
With bouncy castles, food and drink concession stands and free admission, this is a perfect family event to attend, so don't hesitate to go to the next Summer Sundays on June 6 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. when the musical theme will be 'Gospel!'
