Youth sailor will take to the water

Keeping tradition alive: May 24, 2006 saw the opening of the dinghy racing season in St. George's Harbour. Contest is seen rounding the mark boat closely pursued by Challenger and Elizabeth. Contest won the first two races, while Elizabeth captured first place in the third race.

On May 24th, to begin the Bermuda Day Celebrations, Lance Fraser will be racing Bermuda fitted dinghies along with six or seven others, accompanying him in their dinghy, named Elizabeth, with red sails and a sail number of 5.

It will be Lance's second time participating in the fitted dinghy racing, and he is very much looking forward to it. Lance first started fitted dinghy racing in the summer of 2006, and decided to continue to race consistently, at the end of 2007.

To prepare for the races the sailors spend most of their time preparing the boat, and keeping the atmosphere positive.

Lance shares, "Everyone is happy and having a laugh before the races, to keep any nerves from getting to anyone."

Along with the accomplishment of racing in two Bermuda Day festivities, Lance won the Jubilee Cup in 2007, which he considers his greatest achievement.

"It was my first full day on the boat and that race is considered the most important race of the year for us, as it is a match race against our rivals Victory from St. Georges."

Besides fitted dinghy racing, Lance also sails many different types of boats, including Snipes and J24s.

Whilst on land, Lance enjoys playing baseball. Lance shares, "I will continue dinghy racing as long as I still live in Bermuda."

He also hopes there will be a chance to continue his sailing at university, as most races will occur in the summer.
