BHS Head Prefect –Kristyn Dale

Nicholas Hall and Kristyn Dale have recently been elected head prefects by their peers after delivering a three-minute speech to their upper school student body. This was followed by an array of thought-provoking questions thrown out from a panel of adults which they had to answer on the spot in front of the entire student body.Subsequently, students from Year 7 through IB 2 voted Nicholas Hall and Kristyn Dale as the new Head Prefects of the Bermuda High School. An ambitious Kristyn Dale began by stating her future endeavours after completing the IB programme at BHS.This is to major in neuroscience studying in either Halifax or Ontario, Canada.Kristyn used three words, outspoken, sociable and proactive, to sum up her persona. This would explain her active involvement in the National Youth Volley Ball and football teams, and mentor at Youth Net to name only a few of her extra-curricular activities. Inside of school Kristyn has shared that she has maintained honours status from Year 7 to 11.There’s no doubt Kristyn is a well-rounded student when it comes to academics, sports and just having fun with her bubbly charisma.Hence, she feels fit for Head prefect and says, “I’m very easy to talk to, I have experience as a leader, and I’m bold”.Kristyn’s foremost goal as Head Prefect is to see every student have a voice, and work together collectively as a school body and to encourage more pride among her peers. In her free time during the summer she is going to complete a scuba diving certification and attend the international volley ball tournament in St Thomas, while fitting it all in with her Aqua Mania commitment as a swimming teacher.Kristyn felt compelled to share her outlook on the ongoing violence in our small island: “I think that our youth are being subjected and held hostage to the violence in our own country. People need to speak up and speak out it is the only solution.”As Head Prefect, she has the perfect complement in her fellow Head Prefect, Nicholas Hall. Nicholas Hall describes himself as outgoing, interactive, and very adventurous!Inside of school Nicholas is known as ‘Nick’. Within school he has achieved Honours from Year 8 through to Year 11.Besides his school commitments he also finds the time to play the violin and piano, coach junior hockey, play tennis and also take extra-curricular Maths. The free spirited prefect felt obliged to share his impressive golf abilities and mentioned he has an 8.4 handicap.Nick talked about his approachable persona, and willingness to try new things, all assets for Head Prefect. The new leadership structure is appealing to him and very invigorating. Some of his goals for the year are trying to get good grades to apply for universities. He currently plans to major in Science and Maths in either Ontario or Vancouver, Canada. This summer he is looking forward to gaining his lifeguard certification, sailing, attending a summer camp which also includes a ten-day canoe trip.Nicholas lastly shared his ambitions for the school, which includes bringing the school together internally, as there is currently not much communication between upper and lower schools. Both prefects stated the roles of being Head Prefect. The responsibilities include overseeing the Round Square pillars, organising assemblies and also taking part in assemblies. They are also responsible for the organisation of elections for other positions, such as House Leaders.Lastly, they reassured the community that all hope is not lost, and our future is in good hands.Nicholas and Kristyn both have proved to be perfect examples of good role models for their peers to esteem, admire and appreciate with great pride.
