All the news that's fit to wear!
West End Primary students recently put on a fashion show with a difference and you can see it here in this video! To the beat of Michael Jackson’s popular music at assembly on May 23, they shared with the school information about the newspaper they had been studying in the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshops. With the exception of the narrator, each one of the students was dressed in black and white and a section of the newspaper. Samuell Simmons, the narrator, introduced the fashion show as the sections paraded around the hall.Starting with the flag and the folio, modelled by Malay Robinson, the students explained the different sections of the newspaper, including cut line, jump line, headlines, dateline, teasers and refers. Then strutted down the runway the editorial section, lifestyle section, sports and weather, advertisements and last, but not least, the funeral notices, the most viewed section of the newspaper. As reported earlier, the stunning designs, prepared by P4 teacher Chantal Simons, were made of newspaper clippings stuck on to poster board. Ms Simons borrowed the concept and some of the fashions from Gilbert Institute teachers Juanita Telford and Barbara Alleyne.
