Riding my ‘mean machine’ for the first time

Marley Hines, Head Boy, Harrington Sound Primary School

Southside race track was the location of my first experience on my 65 cc street bike. It was the first time I rode, and I was so incredibly nervous but I got through it.I only made one mistake one big mistake and that was to hit head-on the iron fence. I didn’t even make it to the track!!I was so scared getting back on the bike, my head was still spinning. Plus my daddy was on the back, which made me even more scared. The reason for my anxiety was because if he went down I was going with him and that was going to hurt.We started off unsteadily then he jumped off. I knew I was going to go down with him. What made matters worse was I thought I would go into a pillar or into the gate. Luckily that didn’t happen, well not at that point.I was getting tired due to the heat, dehydration and high level of concentration. I got back on my bike, let go of clutch and boom! Before I knew it, I was in the fence again! It was not a pretty picture it was really ugly. I wasn’t hurt, but I was surprised. It was my first crash on my first day. How would I ever master the skills to ride this mean machine? It was the longest day ever. I couldn’t believe what a fun-filled day it was. I knew I wasn’t going to ace the techniques the first day, but I didn’t expect to hit the fence.Well you know what they say, practice makes perfect! I look forward to my next adventure.
