Hundreds prepare for schools’ fitness challenge
When school starts some 500 students will sign up for a healthy living fitness challenge. Over the last three years BF&M have been hosting The Inter School Fitness Challenge. The programme is both a mentally and physically healthy challenge for 500 students. It is a six-week programme which sees students from all of the private and public senior schools on Island and of all sizes and fitness levels working together towards a healthy lifestyle. The infrastructure includes four boot camps per week, plus counsellors and trainers working with the students on a daily basis. In 2012, Global Arts (Youth Initiatives) Foundation, the organisers of the programme, evolved the challenge and started working with Middle Schools. They coordinated a “Bleep Test” contest for the M3 students across the island. It was an overwhelming success. It saw 300 students from public and private middle schools participating. The finale was a Bleep Test Face Off among the students and schools. TN Tatem were the winning school for the 2012 Bleep Test Face Off. With the success of last year, the organisers are now proposing to host the Middle School programme for 12 middle schools (M3 students). This will see approximately 400 students involved. It will last for six weeks. Similar to the senior schools, the programme will include boot camps, fitness tests and healthy living work shops for the students. The biggest difference between the middle school and senior school programme is that, in order to deliver the programme to the middle schools, the team of trainers, counsellors, etc., go out to the middle schools. This is due to the fact that senior school students in their programme have their own transportation and find it easier to travel to the different venues for boot camps.Below are some links which show highlights of the Inter School Fitness Challenge from 2012.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7Kus6kAZpc&feature=youtu.behttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AqvQRnB4Zghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4rEpeNaYKsPlease contact Sarah Fellows at sfellows@rg.bm for more information on The BF&M Middle and Senior School Challenge.
