Shantel DeShield, physical education and health teacher at The Berkeley Institute, described her hopes for the Berkeley Institute teams this school year.Ms DeShield, who is the girls’ football coach, said: “We must have expectations for our players. For the most part all of our girls are very talented, so it comes with ease to excel physically.“As far as skill, we definitely work on that in training sessions and during games, but there are other areas that we focus on as well.“Because myself and the other coach, Mr Donnavin Durrant believe that we are trying to develop the whole person it is imperative to work on the players’ social skills, self-esteem, teamwork, and communication skills. It is important for players to have a balance which will help them on and off of the field. Improving these areas will help them academically and professionally, as well as preparing them for their future endeavours. It is with these expectations that we will carry out success on and off the field for the 2013/2014 football season.”The Berkeley Institute offers their students the following sports class options:Girls/Boys FootballGirl/Boys VolleyballGirls NetballBoys RugbyCo-ed BasketballCross Country and Track & FieldWeight TrainingSwimmingTennis and badminton
