Huge effort goes into MSA Bazaar
Thirty-eight thousand and thirty. That’s the conservative estimate of the number of manpower hours it takes to make the Mount St Agnes Academy Bazaar successful. That’s the effort of one person working ten hours per day for ten years.Fortunately, many hands make light work. And while superheroes will be present at MSA’s “Comic Life” Bazaar, it will take the concerted effort of a community of students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends to ensure that this event continues its legacy as the oldest, continuous fair on the Island still in existence. The Fair, as it was originally known, started with the inception of Mount Saint Agnes Academy in 1890. It was more of an arts and crafts fair by the Sisters of the Charity than the cotton-candy-serving-fun-fiddled-raffle-drawing fundraiser of today. In fact, it has evolved to become the largest fundraiser for MSA, netting more than $100,000 annually to assist the school in its mission to provide the highest quality education in a caring, Christian environment.Impressively, most of the monies are raised by students selling raffle tickets. While the economy has been slow and people are willing to forego more elastic goods such as raffle tickets, it’s an easier sell when people see the prizes, which range from a Kia Rio Hatchback to a family trip to Universal Studios to ten $1,000 grocery vouchers. This year’s bazaar will take place on October 18 and 19 from 10am to 10pm.
