Somerfield Academy cleans up at Earth Day video contest
The Bermuda National Trust invited students to enter videos with themes titled The Ocean Around Us, A Green Hero and Sustainability and Local Food.
Students submitted two to four minute videos and were judged on their creativity, production and their ability to create a memorable and interesting video.
Students were commended by Tim Marshall, partner at Marshall Diel and Myers who sponsored the event and Minister of Health and Environment Trevor Moniz who also presented prizes donated by Ptech, Island Winds, Royal Gazette Stationary Store, Bermuda Clayworks, Speciality Cinema & Grill, Fantasea Diving, Bermuda Fun Golf, Bermuda National Museum, Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute and the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo.
Alison Kempe, Parent Relations Coordinator at Somersfield Academy told us: “Seven videos were entered by Somersfield Academy students and we are exceptionally proud of their work!
“We have included the links below to all of the videos that were entered.
“Please take the time to watch these videos and see what our students are doing both inside (P5 Innovations) and outside of the classroom. Very exciting stuff!”
The students pictured shared their thoughts with our readers on the Earth Day Video Contest.
Megan Johnston said: “I think people should be more aware of what they are buying and how it affects the earth.”
“I gained knowledge on the serious side effects of ocean pollution,” Meinhardt Rentrup said.
Charlotte Toogood said: “When I was researching I saw photos of birds and it shocked me to see how the birds are affected by plastic and litter.”
Lindsay Smith said: “I think people need to be more careful what they are doing to Bermuda and the environment.”
“I think the ocean is a very beautiful place and people should not exploit marine life,” Cali Lindo said.
Kayley Gibbons told us: “I wished to showcase that buying local food helps our community.”
Alex Bordage told us: “Me and Adam Larson entered to have fun. Our film is about being eco-friendly and how to recycle.”
All videos can also be accessed on The Bermuda National Trust website and we will have them posted to our Somersfield Blackboard under GREEN TEAM NEWS!
