Learning the Promise
Thirty-seven Saltus Year 1 and Year 2 girls have signed up for the first Saltus Rainbows troop at Lower Primary.
Parent Joy Laurence is the Troop Leader and she is assisted by Saltus Year 1 teacher Selena Mello and a number of parent volunteers, including Lenka Henshilwood, Kitty Harrison, and Christina Coughlin.
Rainbows are the youngest members of the Girl Guides and Troop Leader Joy said: “The goals of the programme are to develop confidence, learn by doing, build friendships and instill a desire to help others and practice kindness. The Saltus Rainbows will hold a strong sense of pride and responsibility in their membership and keep their promise.”
At the first meeting, the girls learned about what it means to be in the Rainbows, discussed the Rainbow Promise — “I promise I will do my best to think about my beliefs and be kind and helpful” — were asked about what activities they would like to do in the weeks ahead, and had fun dancing and creating a poster.
The girls were excited to be a part of this new initiative. Uniforms have been ordered and should be on Island within a few weeks.
