Student leaders prove their mettle
Young Observer met with Amara Richards and Anya West this week to congratulate them on being voted head student leaders at Somerset Primary.
As a part of the voting process, the students were required to write and deliver a speech at assembly a week before.
Here are copies of Amara and Anya’s speeches.
“To be a great head girl, she must possess these great qualities: she must be kind, confident, have all the “Bee”-Attitudes, responsible, easy to talk to, respectful, work hard in school, and set an example.
“She must also have great leadership skills while staying humble, and most of all she cares about a healthy school environment.
“The head girl should be strong, positive, and a great role model in and out of school.
“She is me: Amara Richards, and if given this title, I know I will be great in this position.”
“I, Anya West, am here this morning to tell you why I should be head boy.
“I am responsible, respectful and trustworthy. I work hard to be a better student, friend and son. I’m asking you to choose me as head boy not because of what I’m saying, but also because of what you have seen in me and from me in the last five years.
“ The position of head boy carries a lot of responsibility and I believe I have the right qualities required for this position.
“It would be a great honour to represent Somerset Primary as head boy and be able to explain to anyone and everyone who visits the school just how good the school is and how proud I am that I attend Somerset Primary School.”
