Lessons from fire safety awareness contest
Every year the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service has a fire safety awareness competition.
This year the theme was Hear the Beep Where You Sleep for the poster competition or we had to explain why it is important to have a smoke alarm in the bedroom for the essay competition.
Lots of boys and girls from all over the island entered the competition.
At the awards ceremony a senior firefighter spoke about all of the entries and fire safety in your home.
After this the awards were then presented. There were awards for first, second and third place where everybody got certificates as well as a prize for first place.
Although for the poster competition it is split up into age categories, the essay competition is just the primary division. The winner of the essay competition (which was me this year) gets their name engraved onto a plaque which stays at the Bermuda Fire Station. I was very delighted to receive the award and my prize. Everyone was reminded to check their smoke alarms when they got home. They did also have very good food there which my family and I enjoyed very much.
