Victor Scott students honour local heroes
Each year, Victor Scott School sets aside a couple of days to schedule their homecoming events and to celebrate the school’s rich history.
One of their main events is the Alumni Heroes assembly, during which they honour three of their very own Central School/Victor Scott School alumni who have made various contributions to the school or community.
Ms Williams, the principal, said: “The purpose of this assembly is to remind our present students of the rich legacy of the Central/Victor Scott School.
“Our aim is to give them hope that they can also aspire to reach the accomplishments of our honourees, who have paved the way and given them great role models to emulate.”
This year’s honourees were Wendy Woods, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist; Elmore Warren, the owner and operator of Fresh TV; and Sentwali Woolridge, Bermuda’s champion kickboxer, who is in Jakarta, Indonesia, competing in the World Wushu Championships.
Past honourees are:
• 2012: Victor Scott Jr, Dale Butler and Michael Weeks
• 2013: Muriel Wade-Smith, David Bascome and Jevon Williams
•2014: Helene Stephenson, Ewart Brown and Mitchell “Live Wires” Trott
Other events included a Spirit Day, when students went to school in their house colours and participated in the Gold vs Blue cheering competition, together with an international lunch.
Ms Williams said: “We are celebrating the diversity of our staff and students. Parents are encouraged to send in dishes from Bermuda, Jamaica, Zimbabwe, Dominica, Canada, USA, Azores, UK and Trinidad.
“The whole student body is given the opportunity to sit with their friends at decorated tables and practise their good etiquette skills.”
