Testing Bermuda's athletes for drugs
Kenneth E. Dill, MBA
Bermuda Sports Anti Doping Authority, education manager
What does the role cover?
My role is to provide our National Sport Governing Bodies (NSGB) and all athletes and students with the information concerning our testing process as well as ensuring that they know the sources that can provide answers about Illicit and Performance Enhancing substances. I also manage the ADAMS (Anti-Doping Administration and Management System) for our athletes.
Give us a little bit of background on yourself ...
My previous career was in the banking arena and also in the local education system.
I started out as a Doping Control Officer (responsible for testing athletes) with BSADA and had the opportunity to join the organisation as the education manager which I gladly accepted. I have played sports all my life, basketball, football and athletics. I was an administrator for local football and view sports an integral part of my life.
What is the BSADA mission/vision for Bermuda student athletes?
To prevent, detect and deter the use of illicit drugs and banned doping practices by delivering education and testing services to the Bermuda Sporting Community. To have a well educated, drug-free sporting community that inspires disciplined, honest and committed athletes.

What is BSADA testing for?
If you are tested under the Illicit Policy (domestic), you will be tested for Illicit drugs.
If you are tested under the Anti-Doping Rules policy you will be tested for Performance Enhancing substances and methods on the WADA Prohibited List.
How does the testing process work?
Athletes provide a urine sample and our Doping Control Officer will test the sample for the substances specified in an illicit test. The PE test samples are sealed by the athlete and we ship them to an approved WADA accredited lab for analysis.
Random and target — when required
These tests can be administered in competition (National Championships, Race Weekend) and out of competition (Home or training venues both domestically and overseas) and also with no advanced notice.
