Protecting our resources
Last week Young Observer met with Shanda Simons, co-ordinator of the Dalton E. Tucker Primary School Eco Club.
The club is taking part in the Eco-Schools programme, while also benefiting from the Water Explorer programme.
Greenrock has partnered with HSBC and Global Action Plan to offer Water Explorer — a fun, student-led, action-packed scheme for children between the ages of 8 and 14.
It is an international educational programme and competition involving at least 9,000 students across 11 countries.
In becoming Water Explorers, students take on an important mission to safeguard our fresh water and lead the way to a more waste-conscious world.
The programme seeks to educate students in understanding where water comes from, where it is hidden, how it affects lives and how to take practical action to protect the environment at home, at school and within local communities.
Abbie Caldas, schools programme manager at Greenrock, said: “This provides them with online resources, lesson plans and activities where they log on to their profile, select a challenge and work through it during eco club time.
“Once completed, they upload the results and earn points which can eventually help them earn eco-related prizes for their school. It’s a fun and interactive way to track their activities and connect with other students from around the world.
“This Water Explorer programme is open to anyone and relates to various Eco-School topics.”
