Talented teens showcase music skills
“Amazing”, “Thoroughly enjoyable” and “A wonderful showcase” were some of the many positive comments used to review the CedarBridge Academy Concert Bands showcase on March 6, Blockbusters.
The show was centered on theme songs from blockbuster movies.
This concert was not any ordinary concert, but a student-run showcase.
It involved students hosting, conducting and running the technical aspects of the show. This whole idea came about after the smash-hit showcase Annie, put on by CedarBridge Academy’s art department in December.
Instructional leader and music teacher, Tiffany Fox, thought of the idea to put on a production that was student-led.
This production highlighted some of the wide array of rigorous and relevant teaching experiences the students are exposed to on a daily basis.
The show started at 7pm and was hosted by CedarBridge Academy’s head boy, Jordan Simmons-Trott.
The first song, the 20th Century Fox theme, was conducted by S1 student Marley Hines. The second song, the theme to The Avengers, was conducted by S3 student X-onna Stevens, and the third song, from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, was conducted by S4 student Jordan Simmons-Trott.
Next on the programme was violin and viola playing Coldplay’s Viva la Vida, following Brothers in Music (trombone, saxophone and piano) playing All of Me by John Legend.
Lastly, Lyric Monet performed Autumn Leaves by Ed Sheeran.
Part two of the showcase also involved blockbuster hits performed and illustrious students conducting.
Diamond Jordan-Desilva, an S2 student, conducted a medley of Disney film favourites, then S4 student Nathanael Fubler conducted the crowd-pleasing The Phantom of the Opera. Lastly, S3 student Ashley Steede conducted the final piece, the theme song from James Bond movie Skyfall.
S4 students had a wonderful surprise for music teacher Miss Fox, expressing their thanks and gratitude on stage and also presenting her with a gift from the band as she came down to give some closing remarks. This show was indeed a “blockbuster”.
