Praise for Stem students
The ladies of the Sigma Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated held a Stem (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Fair to highlight the students who successfully completed their Ascend (Achievement, Self-Awareness, Communication, Engagement, Networking, Developmental Skills) programme on Sunday.
The Ascend programme is designed to motivate, engage and assist high school students, male and female, in reaching their maximum potential and receiving academic enrichment and life skills training to support their journey to college or vocational employment. The programme places an emphasis on Smart careers (science, math and related technologies) as students learnt about related topics during the course of the programme.
The students met twice a month on Sundays for the months of March-June. During the meetings, the students had workshops and presentations on academic enrichment and life skills training leading to meaningful employment and careers.
The students worked on a variety of topics such as résumé writing, goal-setting, and scholarship, and essay application, just to name a few.
In addition to these workshops, the students also attended a variety of science, maths and related technology field trips to prepare them for their final science fair.
This programme is geared towards high school S1-S3 students and had representatives from both CedarBridge Academy and The Berkeley Institute.
Congratulations to the following students who completed the programme: Kalea Davis, Diauri Richardson, Jai-La Wade, Nayir Pinkney, Kyesja Jones, Roneeyah Jones, Reanna Bassett, Vashti Smith, and Chole Marsh.
