Windlesham House School is set on 65 acres on the stunning South Downs in West Sussex, England.

Several Bermudians have chosen Windlesham, which caters for children from 4 to 13 years of age and offers day and boarding options.

Young Observer got up close with five Bermudians who currently attend Windlesham House School to see how life is at boarding schools. It is school policy for student’s names not to be given.

What is life like at boarding school?

Student 1: you learn to interact with people and learn to be independent. You learn to take care of yourself.

Student 2: self preparing.

Student 3: you live with your friends.

Student 4: you get used to it after a while and living with your friends is fun.

Student 5: it’s a community; warm and welcoming.

What are your favourite activities at school?

Student 1: playing dodgeball and sometimes I like to go for a swim.

Student 2: rugby, drama and running.

Student 3: I like to play capture the flag with my friends, dodgeball and rugby.

Student 4: football, tennis, all sport.

Student 5: games, especially football and rugby, and cooking cakes. I also like chess club.

What do you do on the average weekend?

Student 1: play on the astro or chat with my friends.

Student 2: relax in the common room or play football.

Student 3: play games with my friends.

Student 4: normally play football and golf. I like going to the art room to do some drawing.

Student 5: spend time in the common room, watch movies and play pool.

What do you miss about Bermuda?

Student 1: watersports, the weather and my family.

Student 2: sandy beaches, clear water and warmth.

Student 3: the heat and the nice beaches.

Student 4: the environment because England is cold.

Student 5: the weather, my family and my dogs.

What’s the best thing about Windlesham?

Student 1: the new swimming pool and sports centre. Everyone is nice and comforting if you’re sad.

Student 2: freedom and the sport and drama facilities.

Student 3: the freedom.

Student 4: if you’re upset, someone is always around the corner.

Student 5: it is a warm community with nice people.

What do you want to do when you grow up?

Student 1: a professional footballer or a translator.

Student 2: film director or producer.

Student 3: triathlete.

Student 4: I don’t know. When I was younger I wanted to be a zookeeper.

Student 5: this is hard. Probably something like a professional skier or sailor.
